copper hill mission trip- july 19-24, 2009

Please take a moment to review our Youth Ministry Policy and Guidelines before you go on this trip.

 

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO

Please make sure you have a copy of the WHAT TO BRING LIST.  We will be leaving for our mission trip on Sunday, July 19 at 3:00 PMLuggage needs to be dropped off that morning between 9:00 AM and 10:00 AM.  We will be commissioned as a mission team during the worship service at 10:15 AM.  Here is some additional information to know before you go:

Schedule

  • We will arrive in Copper Hill on Sunday evening around 6:30 PM.  We will stop for dinner on the way to Copper Hill.  You will be responsible for paying for your dinner.  The opening worship is at 8:00 PM

  • We will work Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday all day and Thursday until noon.  Lunch will be provided at the work sites.

  • There will be some free time activities each evening at the camp (tire swing, climbing wall, etc.)  You may participate in these activities if you have filled out a permission slip for White Water Rafting or High Ropes Course.

  • On Thursday night, we will go see a Chattanooga Lookouts baseball game.  The Chattanooga Lookouts are a minor league team.  You will be responsible for paying for your dinner at the ball park on this evening.

  • We will be departing Copper Hill on Friday after our high adventure activities (approximately 4:00).  We will stop for dinner on the way home.  You will be responsible for paying for your dinner.  We should return to Simpsonwood at approximately 8:00 PM.

 

Work Projects

  • This year, we will be splitting into 3-4 work teams.  Each work team will work on an individuals house performing various tasks.  The work teams will be broken down as follows:

    • 1 Senior High team

    • 1 8th grade team

    • 6th/7th grade team(s)

 

Lodging

  • Rustic Cabins with bunk beds

    • The cabins will sleep anywhere from 8-22 people

    • Rooms are not lockable

    • May be sharing cabin with another group

    • Bring linens and/or sleeping bag

    • Multiple bath houses with separate showers are available around the camp

 

Safety on the worksite

  • Maintain a safe worksite

  • Stay hydrated (help watch others)

  • Hold the ladders

  • Obey the adults at all times

 

Dress Code

  • Modest dress

    • T-shirts, modest shorts and closed toe shoes on the worksite

    • Modest clothing to all other activities

  • One piece bathing suits (Team Effort rule) NEW THIS YEAR!

  • No tank tops or sleeveless shirts NEW THIS YEAR!

 

What to Expect

  • God shows up in unexpected ways if you leave room for him to do His work.

  • You may feel like the job you are doing at the moment isn’t as important as what somebody else is doing, but remember that every job is important.

  • Rain happens.  Traffic happens.  Don’t be discouraged, that‘s when God works the unexpected.

  • You will be staying with a bunch of people. You may feel cramped.  Take advantage of the situation and get to know the people around you a little better.

  • You will laugh a lot, work a lot, play a lot, and grow a lot.

  • Showers are available, but you may have to wait in line some days.

  • Your group will work together on a project that will impact someone’s life.

  • Expect to be out of your comfort zone. God will meet you there.

 

Still Needed

  • If you have not turned in the following forms, they are due to the Youth Office immediately.  All forms are available to download below.  Michelle Wehrheim in the Youth Office and Linda Romarion in the Main Office are notaries.  Whether you attend the trip or not, you are responsible for the full balance of the trip ($399).  All money is non-refundable.

FRIDAY FREE TIME ACTIVITIES

The following is a list of our free time activities and participants.  We have a morning session and an afternoon session.  Each person has one activity for each of the sessions.  Please find your name listed below and print off the appropriate permission form.  We will be collecting the permission forms at our team meeting on Wednesday, July 1.  If you have any questions about the free time activities, please contact Matt Parker or Laurie Willing at the church. (Please note: Adults have not been assigned to a group at this time.  We will assign the adults as needed in the next few days.)
